Marriage Teletherapy in Maryland during Covid-19

In the past month many of us have been stuck together 24hours a day, having to assume multiple new roles (working from home while caring for children and preparing all meals). While many families are forced to be apart to protect their family member’s health.

Life is completely upside down, routines are hard to form, privacy and time alone is compromised, and our list of priorities is reorganized. Fear runs our brains and our response to threat is activated.

If your relationship is worsening now, or you are constantly bickering and having a difficult time agreeing or understanding each other, don’t hesitate to meet with an experienced marriage therapist.

What you can achieve in just few sessions:

  • Understanding your arousal system. What causes your fight or flight response and what you need for yourself and your partner to calm down?
  • Understanding your and your partner’s attachment styles and attachment needs during this stressful time and beyond. Some of us need some alone time and withdraw, where others need company and reassurance. Remember that your partner’s attachment style is organized differently from yours and they might not respond like you or in a way you might readily understand.
  • Understanding of what your partner needs when he or she enters threat response – do they prefer to be left alone, listened to, comforted, counseled, touched?

We are here for you.

Frequently asked questions about Telehealth:

  1. How many sessions will we need? We practice brief therapy. Because of our extensive training we are able to get to the root of the problems fairly quickly and attempt to change your communication patterns so you can feel understood by your partner. Most couples report improvement just after few sessions. On average couples meet about 6-12 sessions; however, couples recovering from an affair will need more support and stay in therapy for about a year.
  1. Do I have to live in the Baltimore area to access services: No, we provide therapy to all clients living in Maryland. This is an advantage of Telehealth, you can hire an experienced provider if you live in a rural area.
  1. How often will we meet? We suggest meeting biweekly for a 90 minutes session. Having longer sessions allows us to go deeper and also if one of you becomes emotionally flooded during the session there is time to reset and try again. We are often hired as 2nd or 3rd attempt to save marriages and always hear how having short sessions was not helpful for couples.
  1. What is the cost and is marriage counseling covered by insurance? Our fee is $260 a session. We are currently offering a $50 discount for your first session. While we are an out of network provider, often couples get reimbursed by their insurance under out of network benefits. You can use your HSA or FSA for payment as well. Keep in mind that marriage counseling costs a whole lot less than lawyers’ fee and is far more effective in conflict resolution skills and improved marital satisfaction and we have the research to prove it.
  1. How many sessions do I have to commit to? At least one or two.
  1. Is it confidential? Yes, we use Doxy.me server, a telehealth platform that is HIPPA compliant.
  1. Why should we pick you? We are one of the most trained practices in the Baltimore Area, most therapists specialize in one approach, while we have trained in all evidence based models of couple therapy, to help you get to secure functioning as soon as possible.
